I've been looking for a torchiere floor lamp for the opposite corner of a great room with a cathedral ceiling, this fit the bill perfectly. It has a *heavy* base pedestal so it will not be prone to tipping. The glass bowl is wide and well secured by a broad clamp ring with three screws. The light itself is a double circline fluorescent (4 pin) so the 55w rating works out to between 200 and 250w incandescent.(Color temperature of the bulb is listed as 2700 and I have found replacements online for as little as $10, although I doubt I will need one for years.)This lamp has proven a good way to provide a lot of indirect light to what was formerly the dark half of a room. The lamp has a dimmer switch and allows the light level to be reduced more than other dimmable fluorescents I've tried. In testing with a meter I found the lamp pulled 14w at the low setting and 48w at the highest setting--very respectable for a fluorescent dimmer.
